Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. National Night Out & Music In The Park Featuring Sh~Boom

Approaching the park - oops, forgot to change my settings.

Quite a crowd had gathered on this beautiful August night.

People of all ages came to enjoy their favourite oldies and take advantage of a nice evening after several days of intermittent rain and cooler temps.

These kids took advantage of the view from the two Ski Jumps
As if the daytime wasn't epic enough due to exceptional weather, the evening provided more fun and opportunities for friends and neighbours to gather, visit, become familiar with each other, cook out, play and dance. I live just a couple of blocks from Chester Bowl where on Tuesday nights Music In The Park is held. I can hear the music quite clearly at my house as the acoustics from the bowl carry the sound in my direction. Many Summer Tuesdays I am entertained as I sit on my deck or work in the yard to the music from the concerts held.
For several years Sh-Boom has been the featured band during the first week of August.

This is one of the bands I always enjoy seeing as my friends Ardis and Gary have been a part of the group for the past 7 to 9 years respectively.
Gary is the band's drummer, while Ardis does the sound.
Go Gary, Go Gary, Go Gary Go!

Ardis in Action
That's a LOT of stuff to monitor.
Goodonya Girl - They sounded great!

This concert also occurs between our birthdays, providing yet another opportunity for us to meet up, do some dancing, have some laughs and share birthday hugs - Part of my Celebrate the Month of August. It took us nine months to get here, one day is not enough. Besides, so many fun things happen in August as well as it being the final month of Summer - so LIVE it UP!
Ardis' Birthday falls on the 1st and mine is on the 8th. She is one of my bestest friends and like a big sister. Many people who knew us together during our volleyball days thought we were sisters and if I had one, I'd want her to be just like Ardis. We won a few championships on various teams together. I couldn't ask for a better teammate. She's awesome for so many reasons and so his her husband Gary.

Ardis is one of my long-time, first ever Duluth friends. We met at the YMCA in early spring of '93 when my children Rachel and Sam, and her daughter Rhea and granddaughter Kayla were all taking swimming lessons, afterwards we'd make small talk whilst the kids were changing. Later I ended up joining my first ever summer sand volleyball team and discovered this woman was on the team as well. For several weeks we tried to remember where we had met before as we both had that..."I know you from somewhere feeling." One day during the middle of a game on Skyline's Court B, it came to me, and I looked at her and shouted in excitement, "The Y!"
It was then we both had that lightbulb go on and it all came back to us. The other players quickly reminded us that we had a game going on and had parts to play. This discovery made the game even better and we won as well. That year our team Sponsored by the Little Store took the League Championship. *sigh* Memmoriesssssssssss
(Somewhere I have a photo of us all the night we won - I'll have to find and post it here.)

Ok, now for some pics from tonight's concert. Wish you were here!

Wipe Out!

Everybody get your hands in the air!
The group from the Duluth Chapter of Let's Go Fishing With Seniors was on hand to serve up refreshments to support their activities with seniors from the area. I had to have a Root Beer Float to cap off my evening as well as support a very good cause.
This little guy also thought the RBF was a pretty yummo treat as he enjoyed the music.

Time to pack it up til next year!
