And you know what that means...
The rest of August slides us towards...the impending doom of winter. *dun dun dun!*
*sigh*
I was doubly reminded of this as today I defrosted my basement freezer and had to pick up large chunks of slushy ice from the shelves and floor where it fell from the coils. At least that job is done - for the next six months.
Today was quite warm and humid - but I am not complaining, I don't mind it really.
Knowing that in such a short time it will be much cooler (next week even and especially nights) make me take in every bit of the heat (and yes, even the humidity) with relish, knowing it could be far hotter (bring it on!) or much colder.(shut it!)
A friend of mine was telling me yesterday of someone he met who knew all about ice - and he proceeded to go on about all the different types and in great detail.
I said ick!
He agreed.
He also loves the hot weather, and knows it is very short lived.
He is a surfer, and had grown up in much more tropical climes so he doesn't mind this weather one bit.
I swear I was born in the wrong place - well not exactly as I was born in Illinois, but my parents moved us here to MN, and my ex moved me to Northern MN.
I really belong somewhere more tropical and summer like. (not too heavy on the humidity please)
One day I will be free of this place and it's odd weather and finicky peoples.
I went to the Farmer's Market this morning and several people were complaining about the heat, and impending rain, but many don't realise that the heat and rain is needed so the produce they come to buy actually grows and matures. Seems there is always something to /rant about with some people.
I picked up some summer squash, a yellow zucchini for a pasta dish I want to make and sugar snap peas as well as a head of broccoli and as the pièce de résistance: veggie pasties! SCORE!
We had had a fair bit of cool weather this summer and I noticed my own home grown items were lagging behind and now have perked up some with this past week of warm weather and the rain last weekend and today. My raspberries have been going gangbusters and now the cherry tomatoes are as well.
Mmmmm.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S.
