Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. Motivation

As I walk around more and more, downtown, out various places, I see so many of these people here in Duluth, and all over. I've seen them in Superior, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Thunder Bay, Ont, Canada; Florida; Hawaii, Australia; New Zealand and more.

It's not just Americans who are obese though, as more and more people from countries whose citizens were more fit, are becoming less-so, due to their adoption of American fast food, attitudes and lifestyle, snack food products, and general laziness due to the sedentary lifestyle many lead sitting playing video games, sitting at their computers, or just sitting period. More and more children are getting childhood diabetes and fighting obesity, and many adults are adding to these high numbers as well.

I am in this category (the sitting way too much part), but trying to do something about it.
Although I haven't had fast food since 07, and before (my mates in Oz & Nz dragged me to Maccas repeatedly - sadly, but I still tried to eat a salad (no dressing as always) or grilled chicken - the best choices available, or wait to eat until a later meal when possible - even though skipping a meal isn't healthy, it beats eating something not good for you.

I have been guilty of sitting way too much - for school, or mucking about for hours on end on the computer, inside or out on my deck.

Since last summer though, I've tried to remedy this by playing league volleyball again, biking more, and walking a lot more, both to work, and for exercise. When my job ended, the morning walks ended and I could tell. I put back on a few pounds, and felt crappy again. School was killer last fall too - so much homework = so much more sitting. I literally had to use my breaks to eat, sleep or walk.

I've made conscious efforts all this month of January to get back on track, walking with George more, utilizing my treadmill, doing other exercises for other parts, walking on my own, shoveling more instead of snow-blowing unless it's really deep, keeping my deck shoveled, snow-blowing for other neighbours in my alley, and cutting back on drinking and eating healthier by not buying so many lunches out. The extremely cold weather and snow we've had have made it a challenge as well, forcing me to really make the efforts to exercise indoors. I might start going up to LSC's gym soon too, while I still can this semester.

I eat pretty healthy overall, lots of fruits, vegetables, low-fat or no-fat foods, meats and more grains. My biggest downfall is sitting. I really hate sitting too. I also have had quite a bit of insomnia over the past several months, and this also is not good for weight-loss, as studies show that a good seven hours straight is needed to help your body work properly and to lose weight. Until I sort out my sleep, I'm a bit doomed in that area.

I had a very physical month between working at the Playhouse for school and all the shoveling/snow-blowing, and I feel it daily in my various muscles. I'm not perfect though, I did skip a day or two here or there as you can see by my posts. A main reason I've decided to add what I've done each day is to keep track and to keep on track. When I am tempted to just skip a walk, or something, I think about how good I want to look in a few month's time, and how I want to be done being overweight again. I've done it before, twice, and I really want to do it again and this time keep it off, especially as I approach fifty.

Wanna go for a walk or something?

Tonight's Dinner (and incidentally lunch too) - Jumbo Prawns & Asparagus over Vermicelli w Popeye Bread
Recipe later...omggg so yum.
I also baked some banana bread to mail to my favourite boys

Later on while talking to Sam, I purchased Cake tix for their current Showroom of Compassion tour. I'm finally gonna go see them in May! yay!

Exercise:
Walked one hour with George and Gus at the cemetery
Walked 50 min to video store and back, as well as around the neighbourhood
I was also sad to see it's for sale, as I've gone to this video store since moving here and really enjoy the walk to get there and back - often using it as an reason both for a movie and a walk.
I hope they find a buyer, and some useful neighbourhood business takes it's place.
