Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. Corpses and Copses - Whitney Saurer

Today I was finally able to make time to check out the works of one of Duluth's local new artists, Whitney Saurer. As mentioned in a previous blog, the Saurers are my neighbours a few garages down the alley, and Whitney and my daughter Rachel were childhood friends. I was so pleased to see that her artwork's really taken off, and even more so, proud of her too. Whitney's been a talented artist since she was very young, and when the girls hung out, drawing was always part of their fun.

This afternoon when I arrived, it was very quiet, giving Whit and I some time to catch up with our latest activities and just share some time, which was really nice. Whitney told me she now attends UMD, majoring in, what else, but Art. I wish her luck on her endeavours, and congratulate her on her most successful art show.

Also, be sure to visit her store.

Seriously, it's well worth your time and clicks, as there is so much detail to each piece, and my amateur photography would hardly do them justice. Whitney also really went to some great efforts to frame her work, telling me she's an avid antique shopper, and it shows. The frames she's chosen and refurbished for her each piece really compliment them. This coupled with the theme, time of year, have helped her to break the Washington Gallery record of the most successful sales during a showing, as commented by Sue Sojourner, Washington Studios and Artist Coop, artist and resident.
