It was much too nice a Saturday to work, yet I have to, so I did.
My morning started out with heaps of drama as I set off for work and my car's steering didn't feel right. Well, turns out it wasn't the steering, but it was a very flat tire. I made it about a block away before hearing the tell-tale flat tire flap, flap, flap.
I pulled around thinking I could head back up the alley home, but then realised how steep and pitted it was and just stopped - afraid to do too much damage to the rim, and to survey the situation. It was bleak. I should have taken a photo - but, flat is flat, and off the rim, is well, off the rim. I ended up backing out of the alley and into the street, then realised I was on the wrong side for the even-odd parking, and had to move it. I also woke the ex, and he helped me with a number for a tow (which took forever to get ahold of and to move my car - but in the end it got done) - it totally didn't even dawn on me to get out the spare, nor did it occur to him either, or anyone else I spoke to for help. I had tried to call my daughter, but she was sleeping off a big night (it was only 730am) and my bus driver friend who I figured would be up for work, lived nearby, and be a sure bet to help me out with maybe even a ride to work. It seems his phone has been disconnected. I recall him mentioning that he'd have to change service soon, but that he'd be letting everyone know. Ah well.
I then called a guy from work, hoping he was maybe up as he goes hiking weekends, and is very knowledgeable about cars/parts to see if he knew where the best place for tires would be as I had put this off long enough and really needed to get at least one, if not two new tires. He 'seemed' to be up and pointed me in the direction of a tire place. Then I asked him if he could possibly give me a ride to work - and he could. I am very grateful to him for coming and his help. Thanks Keez. Later another co-worker gave me a ride to pick up my car so I'd not have to take the bus and lose work time waiting as the weekend bus schedules suck butt for timing.
After arriving at work I sorted the tow and the tire place and then just settled in to pass the day. Ugh. It did pass, but slowly. The good news was that they tire place had a couple of used tires I could have and including labour would only set me back $60. Affordable for now, and he made clear I'd need new tires before winter. We'll see, I was told that 2 yrs ago about these and they lasted as I mainly take the bus to work. It at least bought me time to save up for tires - although I am reluctant to put 'new' tires on this car due to it's age and all the dramas it's had since I've owned it. Plus, the staggering fact that the last three vehicles I've put new tires on, have died within six months or so, and I lost money.
Anyway, I made it through work and was so tired all day - I've slept poorly the past two nights and have had busy long days the past 3-4 of them. I pretty much vegged and did just some light things around here and read heaps about some things I am looking into online. Veg day. Plus the fact that the Sun went away in the early afternoon, and after 7-8 started sprinkling, chasing me inside, but not before I captured a shot of the newly blooming Rudbeckia
and settled in to watch A Day Without A Mexican - a funny comedy my bd friend had recommended some time back and I had ordered from the library along with Nacho Libre and they both came in late this week. A theme night and meal. I am saving Nacho Libre for tomorrow now as it's almost 11p and I am fading fast - but wanted to get this entry online before crashing.
then made some grilled chicken and black bean nachos for dinner
Oh! And another light bulb sploded out of the fixture and landed on my bed. This is getting reedickeris.
Buena noche
