Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. Great Day for A Long Walk

It was so gorgeous out and with the bad weather during the week I had neglected my walks - that coupled with the time away from the route I had been taking home up until a week ago from the bus stop on 7th and 4th - forcing me to sort a new route. Change and variety is good. Plus the can pickings were slim from walking there daily.

After working in the yard most of the arvo doing some weeding and transplanting, I felt it was time to get up and stretch a bit and then decided on the walk. So I walked down to 9th street walking to 6th Av E then instead of turning round and heading back home, I decided to head down 6th Av E to the Co-Op and have a look about for a few things I read in some recipes I couldn't find at the grocers.

I indeed found the Rye Flour - and not in a prepackaged bag - but in a self-serve bin so I could just get a small amount versus a huge bag that I'd rarely use. (The grocery bag was expensive too - I thought - nearly $6. It'd prolly go rancid long before I could use it.) They didn't have any Vegemite though or Treacle - but I really didn't expect them to - was just being hopeful. I didn't purchase anything at this time as when I left I only took my keys, camera and my radio headset - so I'll have to go back another time.

From there I walked back up 4th St deciding that I'd head to 15th where I could easily walk back up to 9th and home. On my way, I picked up a coupla aluminum cans and some decent chunks of wood that had fallen from some tree. I always carry a plastic bag for cans on my walks. Free $$.

Around 13th or so I noticed a bus coming - and who should be driving but my fave driver. He had a rider boarding there; then took the time to say hello. Always nice to see his smiling face.

From there I continued on and on the Chester Creek Bridge near the corner of 14th I stopped and took this photo - It's a bit crooked so I could get both sets of falls in view.
Then after crossing the bridge, I decided to take the trail along the creek instead of walking up 15th. I was really glad I did. First off, I found a couple of nice pieces of Birch, so I chucked them into the bag with the other pieces and the cans. Only to have it rip some - but not completely so I was still able to carry it pretty easily as I hiked.

I hadn't been on the lower trails before and thought - wow 17 yrs here and the things that are right out your back door you never do. I had been on the upper trails in a few places, but never below - I'll have to be sure and go back again and from the opposite side. I noticed there was a nice little bridge area over the creek about one third of my way up - but there was a couple walking in front of me who diverted towards it, so I let them be and carried on my way. The part I was on was quite nice, and there was even some tamped down gravel so the trail was much nicer than I had expected as on the upper trail - it can be more dirt/mud depending on the weather and time of year. I had been on that one when it was quite muddy - or melty (in early spring) so this was welcomed. A bit steep at the end to get back up to the road - but not too bad. Just as I reached the top the 11K bus went by. A couple of minutes earlier and I could have rode it home - but, in reality - I was only 5-6 blocks away - and needed the exercise more.

I walked up the alley that leads to the church in hopes of seeing more of those hummingbirds again, but not a one. Damn. Ah well.

After returning home and dropping off my wood and cans I mowed the lawn, and started the grill for some dinner/next week's lunches, then sat on the deck to enjoy a fire with the wood I had gathered, until about 930 when I just got to chilly. What a nice day and calm, clear and almost quiet night. (The neighbours behind me were having a party/bonfire as well - since about 2p - their music had become more quiet- but their voices louder as they played some odd game.) Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good.

Now for a cuppa and my warm flannels.
Cheers!
