Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. Highlands Hammock State Park

Today I went to work with Kevin at his internship job at Highlands Hammock State Park, in Sebring, Fl. This park was built as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) park. Along with the park's Museum to the CCC, there were nine walking trails, as well as bike paths, camping, a park restaurant: The Hammock Inn with the most YUMMY Smoked Pork Sandwich (I'm kicking myself I didn't take a photo of the food as I usually do!), and tonight there is live music in the park featuring GrooVus.
The Museum
Spider above the boardwalk path.
There is an armadillo in the underbrush. Look hard in the lower center.
Here it is scurrying about looking for food.
Here is another one that came right out to me along the walk route to the other paths.
Gators!

I never did see any in the park.
Along the Alexander Blair Big Oak Trail. 1000 year old oak.
I only walked part-way down this trail,
as a very large family with loud whiney kids were ahead.
What I did see of it was beautiful though.

Another Armadillo! (they were everywhere)
An old tortise shell fossil on display in the Hammock Inn Restaurant.
It's huge - click to enlarge.
View of the park area and restaurant across from the museum.

We had a laugh at the "Do Not Feed The Wildlife" sign,
as there was only a man and a dog in this area.

Click to enlarge and see if you can find them.
Lots of wildlife I never did see. Most we have in Minnesota.
The Cypress Swamp Trail - Very cool and well worth the walk.
Herons eating.
Another Armadillo right below the path - this one was the biggest of all.
Looking across the swamp from the beginning of the catwalk.
A very large bird - we're guessing an owl.
A heron's butt.
Tom's too sexy for this trail, too sexy for the catwalk!
We met Tom along the way and Kevin was on a whole "I'm too sexy" kick. Tom was a really nice guy, who walked along with us, and it turns out he owns a restaurant with his wife.
The same bug that Tom was taking a picture of.
I liked the way the sunlight came through the trees above.

More swamp.
The shot above was looking back to where we were at the beginning of the catwalk.
You can see the catwalk along the right hand side above - click to enlarge.
Better shots of the catwalk and swamp.

We were not quite sure what this was?
Music in the park.
Moon over the park.
