Amante de Sol

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."........................................................... ~Hunter S. World Cup 2010

I can handle a rainy Friday day off like this quite easily.

Slept in some, then awaited the call that the cable guy was coming.

It came around 943a, stating the ETA was 1055a-1155a.

Showered, picked up around the house, and sorted some care packages for the girl.

I noticed a white truck going down the street approximately an hour later, after I had very briefly visited the restroom.

Then the phone rang with a survey about how I liked my service. (1055a)
Service?
What service?
We didn't get no stinkin service!

Mind you, the customer service agent who set up the appointment, as well as the reminder call recording, had told me that the service tech would need me to be home, so he could change the filter and come inside to check the channels to be sure they worked.

No knock, no nothing, and no new channels.

So...I ring up the cable company and let them know this, and they agree to send a tech back out within an hour or so depending on the job he was on now, but hopefully before the noon-hour was over. I reiterated that he should ring my mobile to let me know he was on his way.

No call, nada, but at about 1122, I see the truck whip down my street again, then seconds later, it was parked in my back parking area. I went to the side door, expecting to see the tech at the box on the house, but no, he was getting back into his truck. Then he backed up, and I thought, "Fuck, did I miss him again?"

About to dial up the company again, I then notice him a few houses down up the pole making adjustments. *Whew* After a few minutes, he comes down, and I am trying to auto-programme the new channels. They finally take and minutes later, he is at the front door, checking, as he was supposed to the first time.

I felt bad for the guy, as it was pouring down, but then again, I am sure he is paid well for his efforts. He even stated that, "I was doing a job in the back for someone on the other street, if I had only looked at the next job, I could have saved myself a trip." So who knows what he put in as the job being done, as the customer service agent said that the survey is only generated once the job is complete - or he was just trying to cover his ass - either way, no skin off my back, just a phone call, whereas the tech had to climb that pole two, if not three times, in the wind and rain. Sucks to be him, but such is life.

I tuned into ESPN hoping to catch the end of the first match between South Africa and Mexico, but it was well over, so I just watched the highlights and then sorted some things around the house and got ready for game two.

Tutu dancing cracked me up, as I had heard on the radio he was so old (78 is old? hear that Dad? *Dad is gonna be 75 this year...*) that they expected him to attend the game, but didn't think he'd be there long, just long enough to make an appearance, as 90 minutes would be a bit much for him. Well in the clip I saw, he was boogy-ing on down like one happy fan, and sure as heck didn't look too old or tired to me.

Party on!

Cooked up a spinach, chicken, sun-dried tomato, kalamata olive, banana pepper, onion and feta cheese pizza and settled in to watch the game.

The Uruguay-France match was amazing. Back and forth, but Uruguay played great defense and thwarted all of the French efforts to score. Heaps of yellow cards, and even one red. The match ended as a draw, so I was happy as I was going for Uruguay (as I've decided I am going all Americas (with the exception to Australia and New Zealand due to my loyalties there) and I have a friend who has married a girl from Uruguay, and I am no fan of the French...nice rationalisation eh..lol. Deal with it.) I even picked Forlan as the Bud Man of the Match! Ha! (I had the FIFA site's MatchCast going online as well as the TV -which was kinda fun.)During the last of the match I even managed to put together and bake a pan of brownies. Then afterwards, my daughter who was supposed to call after her noon lunch date, finally called (4p) to go run to the Park Point Garage Sales and some shops. (Nice timing - but still, time with her *and her friend Anthony* none-the-less.)

We hit the soon to be closed Downtown Ace Hardware store where for $1 she picked up a discarded display rack that was perfect to use as a snowboard rack for by the door of her new apt. After, we drove down Park Point (it was 5p - so the sales were all basically closed up, save for a few in some garages *as the day was rainy and windy too* ) and it ended up being not much more than a nice ride down Park Point.

The waves looked awesome though - we even passed a car with boards heading towards the beach - and I couldn't but help to think about my mate Renãn and how he was missing them, but surely he was having great time in the cities watching the WC with his friends and family.

We then headed up the hill to Menards for a toilet seat, as the one in the new apt was all gross and broken; no better excuse needed for a new seat.

A quick visit to Super One for a few groceries, then back to my house for the Microwave in the garage and the other food I had here for her to take home * as well as her dipping into the fresh brownies again* and they were off to cook spaghetti for dinner.

I hinted at hitting an art show at the Washington Center - but she balked, so I'll go myself another day.

Instead I settled in to watch the Twins game, as it's been a long time since I had full cable to be able to do more than listen on the radio.

Go Twins!
**EDIT:: TWINS WIN 2-1 over Atlanta**

Afterwards, I have two movies to watch.

Sounds like a near perfect rainy Friday/night to me.

Cheers!
